EA Confirms Battlefield 2042 Delay Into 19 November

Battlefield 2042 Exodus

Earlier in the week, video games leaker Tom Henderson said that Battlefield 2042 will be delayed by a month. Electronic Arts has since confirmed that the game will be pushed back, citing “unforeseen challenges” for the dev team.

In a statement posted on Twitter, DICE Studio GM Oskar Gabrielson said that the game will be pushed back to 19 November. He also says that updates to the open beta will be coming later. The unforeseen challenges have been attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is neither new nor surprising anymore.

On the subject of the open beta, Henderson previously said that the open beta dates would not be changed. Now though, he says that the Battlefield 2042 open beta will start on 8 October, with early access starting two days earlier.

Considering it’s only a delay of a month, things don’t look too bad for Battlefield 2042. Other games that have seen delays in recent months have mostly been pushed back by months, leading to their release in 2022 instead. The delay of the open beta shouldn’t be of much concern either. Since having open betas so close to launch is a relatively recent trend, it’s less an actual bug hunting beta than a server stress test.
