The MSI CLAW has yet to officially launch and make its way into the hands of gaming handheld aficionados and the Taiwanese PC brand has already announced that a 2nd generation of its latest product is already in the pipeline. The confirmation was made by Clifford Chun, System Product Managing Director at MSI, during an interview with IGN.
“So, just like our laptops, our aim for users who use this will be roughly two to three years because game titles demand a lot more every two or three years. So, at least minimum, that kind of stuff. Obviously, if you play retro games, you can play MSI Claw for 10 years. So, this will be only the first version of our Claw. We are anticipating to come out version 2, version 3, version 4 down the road and it’s already in the pipeline.”
Development of the MSI CLAW, as per Chun’s comments, first began two years ago. The reason why the company is launching the product this year and not then was because it was looking for a product that could produce two hours of gaming straight, and on the fly. On that note, at least we have an idea as to how long the 53WHr battery inside the gaming handheld is expected to last when put to task. Still, we’re still holding out hope that that won’t be quite the case, if and when MSI allows us to get our hands on the product in the near future.
We already know that the MSI CLAW will be powered by an Intel Core Ultra CPU and more specifically, a choice between the Core Ultra 5 135H or Core Ultra 7 155H. That gives the gaming handheld a choice between seven and eight Xe Cores housed within the integrated ARC Graphics core and flanked by 16GB of LPDDR5-6400 RAM. Additionally, that also means that the console will be one of the first gaming handheld consoles to supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
