Alleged AMD Ryzen 7 8700G APU Details Leak

AMD may have something to announce during CES 2024, if the leak for an Ryzen 7 8700G is to be taken at face value. The alleged specifications of the yet unreleased APU had been posted on the online repository, Geekbench.

According to Geekbench, the 8700G is an 8-core, 16-threads procesor based off AMD’s current Zen 4 architecture, which is also known by its codename, Phoenix. Additional details of the CPU portion suggests that it has a base and boost clock of 4.,2GHz and 5GHz, respectively.

Perhaps the more impressive segment of the 8700G is the RDNA3-powered Radeon 780M integrated graphics that it uses. While the GPU has been doing its rounds, both in the laptop and gaming handheld realm, what sets this particular version apart is its maximum operating frequency – The GPU has a maximum operating boost clock of 2.,9GHz, which is an additional 200MHz higher than its default 2.7GHz boost clock.

The 8700G was tested using an ASUS TUF Gaming X670E-Plus Wi-Fi motherboard and 32GB DDR5-4800 RAM. On the Geekbench Windows AVX2 test, it gained a Vulkan score of 35,427 points. In the OpenCL test, the APU score 29,244 points, By comparison to the Ryzen 7 5700G, the score is nearly double that.

Of course, it goes without saying that the benchmarks results from the Geekbench benchmark is far from being the ideal benchmark standard and doesn’t reflect the actual gaming performance of the 8700G. To that end, it would be best to wait until the APU makes its way out to reviewers hands, including ours, where we will be able to conduct our own benchmarks and find out if it is worth whatever its asking price will be.
