Maybank Will Require You To Activate Secure2u Via ATM Starting 31 October

Maybank has announced a significant change to its Secure2u protocol that will be implemented by the end of the month. Starting from 31 October 2023, users will need to go to a Maybank ATM in order to activate Secure2u for the first time.

If you’re not familiar, Secure2u is the bank’s in-house verification system used for transactions on Maybank2u and the MAE app. Currently, the feature is activated on your device through a One-Time Password (OTP) via SMS.

The use of OTPs for transactions was phased out and replaced with Secure2u verification but it seems that the bank is looking to get rid of OTPs from their protocols entirely with this move. In fact, not only do you need to go to an ATM for first-time activations, but you’ll also need to use an ATM to reactivate the feature on the MAE app whenever you switch to a new phone.

Once you’ve registered for the feature through the app, you will need to activate it via ATM within 30 days. If you fail to do so within that time period you’ll need to register again. As usual, you’ll need to wait 12 hours after activating Secure2u before you can actually use it.
