With TM announcing revised prices for its Unifi fibre plans last week, it is only a matter of time for other internet service providers (ISPs) to follow suit. So far, none of the company’s closest competitors have announced any updates to their fibre offerings, though we did find something interesting while researching on the matter.
In our discovery, at least one Maxis authorised broadband reseller has listed all of the telco’s existing fibre plans under new pricing, which matches TM’s recent revision. More specifically, the 100Mbps line is priced at RM99 per month, while the 300Mbps and 500Mbps packages are at RM139/month and RM159/month respectively. Unlike Unifi, it appears that Maxis allegedly retains its 800Mbps offering, but at a reduced subscription fee of RM249 per month. Prior to this, each plan is priced at RM129, RM149, RM219, and RM299 respectively.
Interestingly, the reseller’s website still lists Maxis’ lowest fibre plan, the 30Mbps line, for RM89/month. Given that the 100Mbps plan is suggested to be offered at the same price, this option should’ve been rendered obsolete, though it is likely that the dealer has yet to remove it from the page.
The website also notes that all of the revised plans are only offered to new Maxis users. With the exception of the 800Mbps package, new signups are eligible to receive RM10 rebates for 24 months, a free “next-gen” WiFi 6 router, and varying home devices depending on the plan that they’re subscribed to. Meanwhile, a free Max WiFi add-on is exclusively provided to users under Maxis’ highest fibre offering.
Seeing that the telco has yet to release a statement regarding this, there is a chance that the reseller’s listing may be inaccurate since it went live before any official announcement was made. Furthermore, no details regarding existing customers were mentioned in the dealer’s website, so it is uncertain whether they’ll also receive free speed upgrades like their Unifi counterparts. We should also point out that no revisions were added to the site’s Business Fibre page at the time of writing.
We’ve reached out to Maxis for comment on this matter, but have yet to receive a response. We will keep you posted if there are any further developments.
