TCL has announced that its latest smartphone series, the TCL 40 NXTPAPER, will be launching in Malaysia soon. The new line-up consists of 5G and 4G-only variants – both of which were initially introduced by the company during IFA 2023 in Berlin earlier this month.
The major highlight for both smartphones (as well as TCL’s other NXTPAPER offerings) are their matte displays, which are touted to offer users with full colour, paper-like visual experience. Additionally, the panel is also reflection-free certified by TUV Rheinland and glare-free, has fingerprint smudge-resistant, and is also compatible with the brand’s T-Pen stylus accessory that’s sold separately.
Starting with the TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G, this particular model offers a 6.6-inch water-drop notched display with HD+ (720 x 1612 px) resolution, 269 PPI, 90Hz refresh rate, and 500-nits typical brightness. It also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, loudspeaker, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB-C connector, Android 13 via TCL UI 5.0, as well as WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC wireless connectivity.
Under its hood is a Mediatek Dimensity 6020 chipset that’s packed with an ARM G57 MC2 GPU, 6GB RAM (expandable up to 12GB via virtual memory), and 256GB storage (expandable up to 1TB via microSD). Powering the phone is a 5,000mAh battery, which comes with only 15W fast charging support.
In terms of imaging, found on the back of the 5G model is a triple camera setup that consists of a 50MP primary sensor, 2MP depth, and 2MP macro. Meanwhile, housed within the water-drop notch on its display is an 8MP selfie camera.
Next up is the vanilla TCL 40 NXTPAPER model, which offers a larger 6.78-inch display with FHD+ (1080 x 2460 px) resolution, 369 PPI, 90Hz refresh rate, and 450-nits typical brightness. Apart from that, the phone features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB-C port, Android 13 via TCL UI 5.0, as well as WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC wireless connectivity.
On the inside, it is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G88 chipset, a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU, 8GB RAM (expandable up to 16GB via virtual memory), and 256GB storage (expandable up to 2TB via microSD). Meanwhile, the phone comes with a slightly larger 5,010mAh battery with 33W fast charging support.
For photography, the triple camera setup on the back of the vanilla model consists of a 50MP primary, 5MP ultra-wide and 2MP depth sensors. Found within the punch-hole cutout on the phone’s display sits a 32MP front-facing camera.
The company has yet to confirm the launch date for both TCL 40 NXTPAPER smartphones in Malaysia. On that note, it is expected that their respective pricing will only be revealed by then.
