Sony is preparing to launch yet another new Alpha camera for this year, just a couple of months after the debut of its A6700 model. According to its most recent teaser that was shared on social media, the reveal is scheduled to happen later this month on 29 August 2023, which will be streamed live via the company’s official Alpha Universe channel on Youtube.
As expected, the company did not provide any further information, but it is believed the upcoming product may be the successors to the A7C full-frame mirrorless camera, the A7R V, or even both together at the same time. It’s also worth noting that the two devices, believed to be called the A7C II and the A7cR, were leaked online by YouTuber Alex NG not long before Sony’s announcement.
The first of which is said to sport the same 33MP sensor as another of Sony’s full-frame cameras, the A7 IV. Paired together with it is the Bionz XR image processor with AI, and 5-stops in-body image stabilisation (IBIS). The source adds that the Sony A7C II is also capable of recording up to 10-bit 4K60p videos, continuous shooting at 10fps, as well as featuring 759 autofocus (AF) points, an ISO range of 100 – 51200, and built-in lens breathing compensation. Meanwhile, it is also believed to feature the same form factor as its predecessor, along with a 3-inch vari-angle LCD display and a 2.36 million dot electronic viewfinder (EVF).
The Sony A7cR, on the other hand, is said to feature similar specifications, with the exception of its design and equipped sensor. In regards to the latter two, the camera is believed to share the same form factor as its predecessor, while image and video capture will be handled by a larger 61MP sensor.
Whether Alex Ng’s leak is accurate or not remains to be seen. With that, we’ll only know for certain once Sony unveils its new product (or products). For those who wish to catch it, the launch will be streamed via the Alpha Universe YouTube Channel on Monday next week at 10pm local time.
