Samsung Foldables May Get FE Models After Galaxy Z Fold6, Flip6 Debut

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 Review

Foldables are becoming less of a rarity in the smartphone market, but they are still far from being mainstream. Part of this is naturally due to the price of such devices, especially the horizontally folding ones. Samsung may be looking to change this, according to an industry tipster, as they point to rumours an FE model for the tech giant’s foldables.

The rumour in question comes courtesy of Revegnus on X, formerly Twitter, who claims that Samsung Galaxy Z FE models are rumoured to be going through “ongoing testing”. These are claimed to only be coming after the company has announced the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6, the foldable models of next year. Considering this year‘s models have only just been announced, we are a long way away from that happening.

Beyond the lite model for the foldables, the claim also includes the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE as being set for release soon, though the post itself does not include any dates. Judging from the past entries, the S22 FE notwithstanding, the announcement window may fall sometime in between October and January. With this, the leakster claims that the South Korean tech giant may plan to “consistently introduce the FE brand annually”.

On that note though, it would be interesting to see what sort of concession that Samsung would make for these FE devices. One possibility is that these devices will be sporting the company’s in-house Exynos chips instead of Qualcomm’s flagship chipset. Though as the S20 FE has shown, that’s not always the case. A source did also say previously that the company is keeping its own chipset for mid to entry-level devices. And the FE variants, while more affordable than their base models, are still worthy of being lumped in with the rest of the flagships.
