AMD Announces Ryzen 9 7945HX3D Mobile Gaming Processor

AMD officially announced the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, and it is the chipmaker’s fastest mobile gaming CPU, to date. More importantly, the arrival of this CPU also marks the arrival of 3D V-Cache into the mobile space.

Specs-wise, the 7945HX3D is identical to its non-3D counterpart, sporting the same 16-cores, 32-threads configuration, and an equally similar maximum boost clock of 5.4GHz. The difference between the two mobile processors being, instead of the standard 64MB L3 Cache that the non-3D variant has, this CPU can boast a whopping 144MB of L3 Cache. For that matter, you also get the same TDP consumption range, between 55W and 75W.

Of course, as the 7945HX3D is a Ryzen 7000 series mobile processor, that also means it’s also based on the latest 5nm process node, based on TSMC’s N5 manufacturing process. However, as with all 3D V-Cache processors, you won’t be able to do any manual overclocking.

3D V-Cache technology was first brought on to the scene by AMD with the launch of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D back in 2022. As a quick primer, the 3D V-Cache chiplet design typically gives a Ryzen CPU up to three times the amount of L3 Cache by stacking said caches vertically, therefore allowing it to cut down on the response time between each die and its capacitors.

While we’ve yet to test out the CPU, AMD claims that the7945HX3D is more than 15% faster than its non-3D sibling with gaming across the board, which is very impressive but again, we’ll have to personally verify that claim.

As for when we’ll be able to see laptops rocking the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, the high-octane mobile gaming CPU will be making its way into the market from 22 August onwards, and the first laptop to house it will be the AUS ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D.
