Tesla Starts Hiring In Malaysia; Nine Job Titles Open

Tesla Dealership

By now, it should be no secret that electric car maker Tesla will be having an official presence in Malaysia. But while we had a welcome note on Twitter by the Minister of International Trade and Industry last month, the company now has a page listing jobs available in the country. Though, to be fair, it’s only in a single area, and no prizes for those who guessed correctly which area that is.

On the Tesla Careers page, Malaysia is now listed among the the countries in the Location drop down menu. There, we can see nine different job titles across five categories with available positions, from engineering and IT to operations and sales. And they’re all jobs in Kuala Lumpur, which is probably an unsurprising choice for a local office and showroom, or at least the first of a few.

This feels like the obvious next step for the company. As mentioned, last month MITI approved the importing of battery electric vehicles (BEV) into Malaysia. And in doing so, the company will also be establishing a head office, alongside experience and service centres. There will also naturally be a Supercharger network for the cars that will be sold locally, as well as those in our neighbours up north and down south.

Prior to that, the company listed a Tesla Sdn. Bhd. as a subsidiary in its FY2022 annual report. This was previously Tesla Services Sdn. Bhd. which didn’t sell electric cars, but instead was a Finance Shared Service Centre which handled the company’s accounting and finance side of the business in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
