Pakej Perpaduan For Fixed Broadband To Launch On 29 March

Following its announcement last month, the new Pakej Perpaduan for fixed broadband will be officially launched at the end of this month. This was revealed by the Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil during a press conference at Parlimen today.

Similar in nature to the mobile counterpart, this package is meant for individuals that are under B40 categories. Other eligible recipients also include security forces veterans, disabled persons (OKU), and senior citizens.

According to Fahmi’s initial announcement early last month, Pakej Perpaduan For Fixed Broadband will deliver a speed of up 30Mbps at RM69 per month. Based on our calculations, the package provides savings of around 13% to 22% when compared to existing 30Mbps fibre plans.

The savings can even be as high as 53% when compared with wireless broadband plans. However, the Pakej Perpaduan for fixed broadband does come with a 24-month contract although this does not come as a surprise since the contract duration is a standard implementation within the industry.

The minister has also previously noted that the new package will be available by Astro, CelcomDigi, Maxis, Time, TM, U Mobile, and YTL Communications (Yes). At the moment, these ISPs have yet to reveal in-depth details regarding their take on this Pakej Perpaduan with the exception of Time who already announced the 100Mbps Pakej MyKabel.

During today’s press conference, Fahmi said that 7.74 million premises all over Malaysia had already been covered by fibre last year. The figure exceeded the 7.5 million target that was set under Phase 1 of the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) which concluded at the end of 2022.

Scheduled to take place this year, Phase 2 of the initiative will be focusing to increase that figure to 9 million premises by the end of 2025. It will be part of a larger objective which is to connect the final 3% of the populated areas in Malaysia.
