Celcom customers on selected postpaid and prepaid plans will be able to utilize 5G connection starting tomorrow, 1 November. The telco is the latest in the list to announce their initial 5G consumer plans after Yes 5G, unifi Mobile, and U Mobile.
The revelation of the initial 5g consumer plans came alongside the announcement of the 5G access agreement between Celcom and Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) by Axiata which is the parent company of Celcom. Previously, the telco has also signed a shareholder deal with DNB that allowed it to obtain 12.5% stakes in the national 5G company.
Here is the list of Celcom consumer plans that will receive 5G access tomorrow:
- Celcom MEGA Lightning 80
- Celcom MEGA Lightning 98
- Celcom MEGA Lightning 128
- Celcom MEGA Lightning 158
- Celcom MEGA Lightning 188
- Celcom Xpax Postpaid 40
- Celcom Xpax Postpaid 60
- Celcom Xpax Prepaid RM35 Monthly Internet Pass
- Celcom Xpax Prepaid RM45 Monthly Internet Pass
Back in September, Celcom provided 5G access to a select group of customers that were picked up by the telco for its 5G friendly user trial (FUT) program. As part of this program, they were able to utilize 5G roaming service in selected countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, the Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea, UAE, and many more which is something that the telco will unlock for other customers from tomorrow onwards.
Unlike during the FUT period whereby customers were able to use 5G without any effect on their data quota, any data utilization will be drawn from the existing quota under their respective plans. As a quick reference, here is the quota for each plan that we have previously mentioned:
- Celcom MEGA Lightning 80: 40GB
- Celcom MEGA Lightning 98: 50GB
- Celcom MEGA Lightning 128: 70GB
- Celcom MEGA Lightning 158: 90GB
- Celcom MEGA Lightning 188: 120GB
- Celcom Xpax Postpaid 40: 10GB
- Celcom Xpax Postpaid 60: 20GB
- Celcom Xpax Prepaid RM35 Monthly Internet Pass: 30GB
- Celcom Xpax Prepaid RM45 Monthly Internet Pass: 40GB
In general, Celcom customers will be using the same data quota that has been allocated for their respective plans regardless of whether they are on a 4G or 5G connection. This approach is similar to U Mobile which will also turn on the 5G access for its customers this week although that will only take place two days after Celcom.
Celcom has also noted in today’s announcement that customers will be able to utilize various 5G virtual reality contents although the telco did not provide any further details regarding them. Meanwhile, Celcom Business customers will also be able to connect to the national 5G network on 1 November as well.
