Alleged AMD Radeon RX 7900XT Could Have 20GB GDDR6 Graphics Memory

AMD’s launch of its Radeon RX 7000 series is expected to kick off within the next couple of weeks, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the rumour mill be churning harder than usual. The most recent rumour seemingly suggesting that one of its high-end SKUs of the series, the RX 7900XT, will be shipping out with more graphics memory than its predecessor.

According to sources close Wccftech, the RX 7900XT could ship out with 20GB of GDDR6 graphics memory, 4GB more than the 6900XT and 6800XT, in total. Now, it should be made clear that this news isn’t groundbreaking, by any measure of the definition; earlier rumours indicated that the RDNA3 GPU used in its manufacturing, the Navi 31, would support higher memory capacity, as well as feature a 320-bit memory bus.

What is still an unknown variable is the memory frequency or speed of the GDDR6 memory for the RX 7900XT. If AMD chooses to keep its speed set at 18Gbps, just as it did with its RDNA2 architecture for the RX 6000 Series.

If that turns out to be the case, that’s approximately 720GB/s of bandwidth passing through the RX 7900XT, which is 144GB/s faster than the current flagship Radeon, the RX 6950XT. That number, by the way, is before we even consider the size of the new Infinity Cache that AMD is expected to launch with its new card, with some rumours stating that it is going to be 96MB, bare minimum.

Other rumours have also pointed out that the RX 7900XT and its Navi 31 GPU will also house as many as 12288 Stream Processors. To put it simply, that’s would mean that the GPU die would have to be rather massive, especially if it were to accommodate all those transistors and other components on it.

In any case, we’ll just have to wait until 3 November to hear more about what AMD has in store for us.
