Xiaomi today has officially launched the Civi 2 smartphone for the Chinese market. The device’s main selling point is its selfie capabilities, thanks to its dual 32 MP front-facing cameras (a first for any handset from the company), dual-tone front-facing lighting system, and numerous onboard AI-powered image enhancements.
The new Xiaomi Civi 2 sports a 6.55-inch 10-bit display panel with FHD+ resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and 240 Hz touch sampling rate. Additionally, it also comes with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, as well as featuring full DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage. On the screen itself is a pill-shaped cutout featuring the aforementioned dual 32 MP front-facing cameras (a primary with autofocus and f/2.0 aperture, and an ultra-wide shooter with 100-degree FOV). Meanwhile, situated on the upper bezel is a dual-tone front-facing lighting system that features four LEDs, which is claimed to be able to adapt and provide “realistic colours” for different environments.
In terms of internal hardware, the phone itself falls under the upper mid-range category. It runs on a 5G-enabled Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, which is paired together with up to 12 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. Powering the phone is a 4,500 mAh battery with 67 W fast charging support via USB-C.
Besides that, it also features a built-in VC liquid cooling system, dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, and Android 12 via Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 platform. In terms of connectivity, the phone supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC.
The new Civi 2 does not fall behind when it comes to its rear imaging system. Featured on its back is a triple camera setup which consists of a 50 MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor, a 20 MP Sony IMX 376K ultra-wide, and a 2 MP macro. It also packs a slew of onboard AI-powered image enhancements for both selfies and general photography, including 3D tracking beauty mode, background blurring, and so on.
The Xiaomi Civi 2 is offered in White, Pink, Blue, and Black colours. Pricing-wise, it is retailing at CNY 2,399 (~RM 1,543) for the 8 GB + 128 GB trim, CNY 2,499 (~RM 1,607) for the 8 GB + 256 GB, and CNY 2,799 (~RM 1,800) for the top-end 12 GB + 256 GB configuration. There’s no word for an international launch at this time, but it is quite likely that the device might stay as a China-only release like its predecessor.
