As hinted by its global marketing president Xu Qi Chase last month, realme has recently launched an update to its GT2 flagship smartphone series in China with the all-new Explorer Master Edition. Unlike the prior iteration, this variant features the more recent Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, and an all-new design – including the more premium travel trunk inspired Wilderness variant, which is created in collaboration with fashion designer Jae-Jung.
Much like the original realme GT2 Pro, the new Master Explorer Edition sports a flat 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, 360Hz touch sampling rate, 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage, and FHD+ (1080 x 2400 pixel) resolution. Powering the display is the company’s custom developed X7 display driver chip that is said to optimise its performance and power consumption. Meanwhile, featured on the phone itself is an under display optical fingerprint scanner, a top-centred cutout for its front-facing camera, stereo speakers, and a USB-C port.
As mentioned earlier, managing both software and hardware on the new handset is the new 5G-enabled Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, along with an Adreno 730 GPU, up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. It’s worth noting that the Master Explorer Edition lacks an SD card slot, therefore it does not feature expandable storage support.
Besides that, it runs on Android 12 via Realme UI 3.0, and also comes with dual frequency GPS, double pressure shoulder buttons, dual SIM support, dual stainless-steel Vapor Chamber Max cooling system, as well as Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 2.4 / 5 Ghz and NFC connectivity. Powering the phone is a 5,000mAh non-removable lithium-ion battery with 100W UltraDart fast charging support with a built-in GaN Fet charging solution.
On the back of the Master Explorer Edition is a triple camera setup which consists of a 50MP f/1.9 primary shooter with optical image stabilisation (OIS), 50MP f/2.2 ultrawide, and a 2MP f/.24 macro sensor. Situated within its display’s punch-hole camera cutout, on the other hand, is a 16MP f/2.5 front-facing shooter.
Along with the Wilderness design, the GT2 Master Explorer Edition is also offered in Iceland and Cangyan colour variants. Unfortunately, realme has confirmed that the new phone will be a China exclusive, which is slated to ship out from 19 July onwards. Pricing-wise, its 8GB + 128GB configuration will retail for CNY 3,499 (~RM 2,307), while its 8GB + 256 GB is at CNY 3,799 (~RM 2,505) and the top-end 12GB + 256GB is going for CNY 3,999 (~RM 2,636).
