Twitter has revealed that it will soon allow users to edit their tweets. The feature is something that has been requested by many Twitter users for so many years but has been brushed off by the company.
In an interview with Wired in 2020, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey pointed out that having an edit feature would allow the content inside a tweet to be completely different long after it was originally published. It is not hard to imagine that someone with malicious intent could take advantage of that to spread harmful tweets or misleading information.
Jack did acknowledge the fact that most users would utilize the feature to edit a typo, wrong link, or other honest mistakes. He also revealed that Twitter has considered providing users with a limited timeframe for them to edit their tweets after publishing them but ultimately said that the company would probably never implement the edit feature.Meanwhile, the company clarified that this edit feature was not inspired by a poll which is likely a reference to a recent poll made by Elon Musk who has just become Twitter’s largest shareholder.

Twitter also noted that the feature has been in the works since last year and will be going through testing via the Twitter Blue Labs route. However, no actual launch date has been announced aside from that the testing will take place “in the coming months”.
