PlayStation Plus To Roll Out New Tiers In Asia On 23 May

PS Plus

Last month, Sony Interactive Entertainment officially announced the new tiered PlayStation Plus service. At the time, there was no rollout date, despite having the new prices for the extra two tiers. But the company has since revealed its rollout roadmap, and it looks like we may be among the first to get it.

In the updated PlayStation Blog post, SIE says that the first region to get the new tiered PS Plus subscription is Asia. The company is targeting 23 May for the rollout in the region. This is then followed by its own home market of Japan on 1 June, then the US on 13 June, and finally Europe on 22 June.

While it’s surprising that Asia, of all the regions, will be getting the new PS Plus tiers early, it makes some sense when consider we didn’t get the PS Now streaming service before. Another possible interpretation is perhaps markets getting the Deluxe tier as the new highest tier will see an earlier rollout. Places that have had PS Now, and by extension will be getting the new Premium tier instead, get a slightly later rollout.

As a refresher, PS Plus Extra, which is the second tier of the new subscription service, adds an Xbox Game Pass-style service. This gives players access to up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games. The Deluxe Tier of the new PS Plus adds PS1, PS2 and PSP titles to the list. Premium tier, on the other hand also gets access to game streaming and PS3 games, which can only be streamed anyway. For now, at least.
