iOS 15.4 Allows Users To Add MySejahtera Vaccination Records Into Apple Health

The finalised version of iOS 15.4 made its way to iPhone users throughout the world earlier today. As you may have heard, the main highlight of the update is the ability to utilise Face ID without the need to remove your mask.

The update also allows Apple Health and Apple Wallet to support the EU Digital COVID Certificate format. Interesting enough, this also indirectly allows the iOS to recognise the QR code inside MySejahtera’s Digital Certificate for COVID-19 Vaccination.

While Malaysia didn’t officially participate in the EU Digital COVID Certificate system unlike neighbouring Thailand and Singapore, we believe that the QR format that MySejahtera used for its Digital Certificate was based on the same standard. This is because the Vaccine Certificate Verifier app was able to support certificates from the EU back in August 2021 although this is no longer mentioned in the app’s description at the moment.

However, only Apple Health can support MySejahtera’s vaccination records at the moment though as noted by the error notice below. Once saved into Apple Health, you can access the data by choosing Browse >> Immunisations in the app.

Using the Live Text feature to scan the QR code from the Digital Certificate inside MySejahtera.

To add to your COVID-19 vaccination records, all you need to do is just scan the QR code inside MySejahtera’s Digital Certificate or its printed equivalent using your iPhone’s camera. Alternatively, you can also use the Live Text feature inside the Photos app although this can only be supported by iPhone XS and newer models.

As for iOS 15.4 itself, you can invoke the update process by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Do note that the update has a file size of more than 1GB, so make sure that you are able to reserve some free time before you start updating your iPhone.
