A couple of years ago, Apple announced that it would be transitioning its computers from Intel processors to its own Apple Silicon, which started with the M1 chip. Now, the company is reportedly planning to finish phasing out Intel with a new lineup of Macs powered by its in-house chips, which are expected to be released throughout the year.

A report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that seven new Mac models will be launched in 2022:

  • Mac mini with an M1 Pro chip
  • 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 chip
  • Mac mini with an M2 chip
  • 24-inch iMac with an M2 chip
  • MacBook Air with an M2 chip
  • A larger iMac Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max chip options
  • A half-sized Mac Pro with a beefed up M1 Max, two or four times as powerful

While it hasn’t been confirmed by the company, Gurman says that Apple’s spring launch event will happen on 8 March, which will debut the new MacBook Pro and Mac mini. The rumoured Mac Pro and iMac Pro are expected to launch in June during its annual developers conference, while the redesigned MacBook Air is speculated to be announced closer to the holiday season.

Aside from the new Macs, the March event might see Apple releasing a new iPhone SE and an iPad Air with 5G. There is also the iOS 15.4 update to look forward to, which will have a wider rollout of a new feature that lets users unlock their iPhone with Face ID while wearing a mask.
