The dream of porting over your WhatsApp chats from an Android smartphone to an iPhone is one step closer to becoming reality. WABetaInfo reports that the chat app has further developed a feature for Android to iOS transfers, though it may still be in the early stages.
This comes a few months after Google announced support for migrating WhatsApp data from iOS to new phones running Android 12, a functionality that initially appeared on select Samsung devices. While WhatsApp has teased about eventually supporting transfers between both platforms, there hasn’t been an official update on the feature from the company.
The feature was first spotted back in September by WABetaInfo, but there wasn’t a lot of detail on how it would work other than it requiring the Move to iOS app. The feature seems to be able to transfer both chat history as well as media, and will most likely require a cable connection between the two phones, just like how it works to transfer from iPhones to Android.
More importantly, the screenshots from WABetaInfo show that the import process needs to be done when setting up WhatsApp on your iPhone, which suggests that the process won’t be possible later on if you skip this step. Of course, it is still under development, so this might change when WhatsApp officially launches the feature.
