Shell and Porsche Asia Pacific today has officially announced the start of operations of its high-performance charging (HPC) station in Tangkak, Johor. It is the first of six stations that will operate along Malaysia’s North-South Highway, and is also part of the partnership’s cross-country HPC infrastructure for EVs that connects Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand – a notable first in Southeast Asia.
Apart from Tangkak, the upcoming HPC stations include Pagoh R&R in Johor, the north and south Seremban R&R stops in Negeri Sembilan, as well as RTC Simpang Pulai and RSA Tapah R&Rs in Perak. Each of these will feature twelve 180 kilowatt direct-current chargers, which Shell claims are capable of topping up the battery capacity of a Porsche Taycan to 80% in just 30 minutes, providing up to 390km of extra travel distance. The fuel company did not specifically mention when each of these HPC stations are expected to open, but noted that EV owners will be able to enjoy the services offered sometime later this year.
Shell also noted that this new infrastructure features a pay-per-use service or an exclusive membership plan, which enables EV customers to book reservations via the ParkEasy mobile app. Customers using the pay-per-use service are charged RM4 for confirmation fee, RM20 for every 5 minutes during the first 25 minutes of stay, and an additional RM20 for every 5 minutes thereafter.
The membership plan is revealed to consist of two tiers: Gold and Platinum. The former comes with an annual fee of RM835, which entitles members to the following rates for the first 10 hours of usage per annum: RM4 confirmation fee, RM12 for every 5 minutes during the first 25 minutes of stay, RM5 for every additional 5 minutes thereafter, and a quota top-up at RM80 per hour. The latter, on the other hand, are complimentary given to every purchase of the Porsche Taycan, which grants owners the following rates for the first 12 hours per annum: RM4 confirmation fee, RM10 for every 5 mins during the first 25 minutes of stay, RM5 for every 5 minutes thereafter, and a quota top-up at RM60 per hour.
All three options also offer users to pick up any selected deli2go pastries for RM1 with every purchase of Costa Coffee from Shell Select during each visit. Meanwhile, Gold and Platinum members are entitled to 10% cashback for all charging stations at Shell Recharge AC stations, and up to one hour reservation for charging bays. Lastly, Platinum tier also features additional exclusive benefits for its members, including a discount of SGD 0.10/ kWh off prevailing retail rate (for the first 600 kWh per annum), access to Shell Recharge devices in Singapore at exclusive rates, as well as complimentary coffee and antibacterial wipes from Shell Select.
