Overseas Travellers With History Of COVID-19 Infection Now Exempt From Quarantine

Those who fly into Malaysian borders are normally required to go through a mandatory quarantine period, as well as having to go through a myriad of COVID-19 testing. Now, the Health Ministry has announced special exemptions for fully vaccinated international arrivals who were previously infected and recovered from the virus.

According to Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin, travellers who want to take advantage of this policy must show proof of lab results that they have been infected by the virus between 11 and 60 days before their departure, on top of providing their vaccination certificates. Those who meet the requirements will be allowed to enter the country without quarantining, provided they test negative for their on-arrival RTK-Ag test.

Additionally, those who were hospitalised during their infection must acquire a “fit to travel” certificate from the hospital, while those who self-isolated in their homes or hotels must do a professionally-administered RTK-Ag test two days before departure and must have a negative test result.

Naturally, these exemptions do not apply to those who are unvaccinated or have not completed their vaccination, and will be required to go through a seven-day quarantine at a quarantine centre. Those who do not have a recent history of a COVID-19 infection, on the other hand, will still need to go through the usual SOP.
