Konami previously announced that it would be selling Castlevania NFTs as part of the series; 35th anniversary. The auction has come and gone, and it looks like the publisher has made quite the amount from the auction.
VGC reports that the Konami Memorial NFT collection sold US$162000 (~RM676600) worth of NFTs in total, with each selling for an average price of about US$12000 (~RM50000). The priciest of them all was reportedly sold for US$26538.96 (~RM111000). OpenSea, where the auction was held, takes 2.5% commission from each transaction, meaning the publisher made over US$157000 (~RM656000) from the auction overall.
The Castlevania NFTs have done a lot better than Ubisoft’s attempts at NFTs. In a report by Eurogamer, the latter only managed to make a total of US$1755.30 (~RM7331) as of late December 2021. Though that may have something to do with the popularity of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint versus the earlier Castlevania entries.
On one hand, this is good news for Konami. Not only did its Castlevania NFT do relatively well to start, any subsequent reselling would give the publisher a 10% cut. But on the other, this will likely encourage the publisher to do more of the same. Which means the next time the company announces anything Castlevania, the chances of it being a game just got lower.
