A new rumour is suggesting that Xiaomi will first launch two variants of its supposedly upcoming flagship smartphone series by mid-December this year – most likely in China first. It is said that the line-up would consist of the standard Xiaomi 12 and the 12X, which is a more affordable variant of the series.
According to Chinese website Mydrivers, Xiaomi has allegedly settled to debut both models on 12 December. Which kind of makes sense, given that the date falls on the 12th day of the 12th month of the year – well, you get the idea. It is also not uncommon for the brand to launch its latest heavy hitters before the year ends. The Xiaomi Mi 11, its current generation flagships, launched in China on 28 December of last year.
Meanwhile, Mydrivers’ report did not mention any details regarding the Ultra variant of the Xiaomi 12. Prior rumours claim that the model will only make its debut sometime in early 2022, likely to give enough room for its siblings to hog the spotlight before it takes center stage. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra could also be the brand’s first smartphone to feature an imaging system co-developed with renowned German camera maker Leica, at least according to leakster Digital Chat Station.
As for the standard Xiaomi 12, it is said that the phone may feature Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen1 flagship chipset, a curved 120Hz 2K display with a tall aspect ratio, 120W fast charging capability, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and a triple rear imaging system with a 50MP primary camera. The Xiaomi 12X, on the other hand, is rumoured to come with a Snapdragon 870 SoC, a 6.28-inch OLED display, a 50MP primary camera, 20MP selfie camera, as well as a 5,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging via wired and 33W fast wireless charging.
