Spotify Confirms The Retiring Of Car View

Spotify

A couple of years ago, Spotify introduced Car View. The idea is, if it detects that you’re connected to your car’s Bluetooth, it switches to a specialised mode with large buttons and very little clutter. But it looks like the streaming company is retiring the feature.

While there was no official announcement, this came via an official response to a Spotify community forum user. In a thread that states that Car View is no longer showing up in the app’s Settings menu, a forum moderator confirms that the company is retiring the feature. There’s no concrete reason as to why the feature is being put to bed.

On the surface, Car View in Spotify is a great feature. The huge buttons means that when you’re driving it’s easy to see where the important buttons are, and easy to tap on them.

But in actual practice, not getting easy access to the main menu is a pain, especially in the horrendous traffic jams that we have. While in stop-start traffic, your playlist runs out, and autoplay doesn’t work even when turned on. So you need to go to your library to pick another playlist, or repeat the same one. And you can’t do the former in Car View. Unless you have a playlist which length is measured in days, this will be a problem more often than not.

All that being said, it would be easy to argue that Car View is still way better than whatever the Car Thing is. This is especially since it is still a US-only thing.
