Oculus has announced a software update for both of its Quest headsets which offers users a slew of new quality-of-life features. Among those introduced include the very handy Space Sense feature, several new voice commands, and a couple of other things which we’ll get to in a bit.
Space Sense is a new addition many would agree that should’ve been a default feature on both of Oculus’ Quest and Quest 2 devices. Basically, it keeps you alerted by notifying you whenever an object or person is within the area-of-play (aka Guardian bounds) that are otherwise unseen when wearing either headsets. Should any of which are detected, Space Sense will highlight them in your VR visual space with a pink-ish glow. This is very practical, as it keeps both the user and any nearby person (or animal) safe from certain mishaps – especially for those flailing their arms around trying to cut fast-moving boxes in Beat Saber.
The new update also lets Quest headsets to now display notifications from connected Android phones. This is an extension of the feature that was introduced back in May, but was limited only to iPhone devices. Also included is a new set of voice commands to further allow you to access certain features without having to manually input them via the controllers or the Quest headsets’ built-in interface.
The version 34 update for Oculus Quest and Quest 2 headsets are now available to all users across the globe. The Meta-owned company says that it will release one more update before the year ends, but did not detail what new improvements or features planned to be included along with it.
