Motorola Could Be The First To Adopt Samsung 200MP Image Sensor

Ice Universe has recently tweeted that Motorola will be the first brand to equip its devices with a 200MP image sensor. While the prolific tipster did not specifically mention the origin of the sensor, we believe that it is the Samsung ISOCELL HP1.

When it was launched in September, the HP1 was said to be the world’s first 200MP image sensor. In the same tweet, Ice Universe also claimed that Xiaomi will begin to use it sometime in the second half of 2022 while Samsung itself will only start using it much later in 2023.

While this may sound odd that Samsung is not using its own sensor immediately, this is not exactly a unique case as far as the ISOCELL image sensor is concerned. Back in 2019, the company’s 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor was first equipped into the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 and Mi Note 10 Pro instead of a Samsung Galaxy device.

In a separate tweet, Ice Universe has said that the upcoming Galaxy S22 Ultra flagship would be using an improved version of the 108MP ISOCELL HM3 sensor. The rear camera module may also feature three other cameras including 12MP ultra-wide, 10MP 10x optical zoom, and 10MP 3x optical zoom with their sensors being sourced from Sony.

There is still a long way to go before we are able to verify the accuracy of the claim above though as the Galaxy S22 Series would likely go official in January or February 2022. So, expect more rumours and leaks to pop up while we are en route to the official launch in a few months’ time.
