Micron recently announced its 16Gbps high-performance GDDR6 memory solution for graphics cards. As per its press release, the new memory will be available via AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards.
Specs-wise, the new 16Gbps memory is based on Micron’s 1z process technology, enabling the GDDR6 memory to achieve up to 512GB/s system performance.
“Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics cards were built to deliver high-performance, no-compromises gaming experiences, and the addition of Micron memory to the product line will help us meet that objective,” Scott Herkelman, corporate vice president and general manager of the Graphics Business Unit at AMD, said. “Micron has a strong history of developing advanced memory products, and we worked closely with their engineering team to optimize GDDR6 for RDNA 2 architecture-based graphics cards, giving our board partners more choice and flexibility to produce additional designs for gamers.”
As for when these new Micron-equipped Radeon RX 6000 series cards will be available, both Micron and AMD have said that consumers can expect to pick up said cards from store shelves from the fourth quarter of 2021 onwards, starting with the RX 6700XT.
