PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia Free Tablet Programme To Kick Off In Q2 2022

The government has recently revealed a programme called PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia (PSKM) during the tabling of Bajet 2022 which aims to provide a tablet for students of higher learning institutions that came from B40 families.

During last week’s presentation of the RM 332.1 billion federal budget, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said that RM 450 million has been earmarked for the programme with additional funding of around RM 65 million will be provided by telco companies. 600,000 students are expected to benefit from PSKM but the Bajet 2022 presentation did not include further details regarding its implementation though.

Fast forward to today, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has published an FAQ document on its website [pdf] that shed some light on the new programme. Among the important points mentioned in the document is that only full-time students are eligible for PSKM.

Additionally, the registration for the programme is expected to take place sometime in the second quarter of next year. The MCMC’s FAQ document also said that Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile, TM, and Yes will be involved in PSKM.

Unfortunately, that’s all the information that the document has to offer at the moment. So, expect more to be revealed in coming months but all in all, we do hope that the implementation of PSKM will be much smoother and proper as compared to the Cerdik programme which was marred with an extremely slow rate of rollouts although this was blamed on supply chain disruption caused by Movement Control Order.
