Next Year’s Call Of Duty May Be Called Modern Warfare II

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019

Call of Duty: Vanguard is currently scheduled for release on 5 November. But that’s not stopping leaks of next year’s instalment from making its way onto the internet. And if the leaks are accurate, or if Activision doesn’t change its name, then it will be a release with a very confusing name.

Video games leaker Tom Henderson has shared on Twitter that next year’s entry into the series will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. This claim is made based on supposedly “amazing” looking artwork. Of course, there’s the usual disclaimer that names can change during development.

And in some ways, it may be better if it does. After all, there’s already a game released all the way back in 2009 called call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. On one hand, the name makes sense if it will be a continuation of the Modern Warfare reboot in 2019. But on the other, just switching to roman numerals for the number two only makes it slightly less confusing than two games with the same name but released 12 years apart.

All that being said, the Call of Duty entry for 2022 is definitely a long way away still, considering this year’s game isn’t even out yet. Let’s just wait and see what Activision decides to call the reboot sequel when the publisher makes the official announcement.
