New Xpax Unlimited Internet Passes Include Uncapped Speed Quota and 60GB FUP Limit

Celcom has revealed two new Unlimited Internet Passes under its Xpax prepaid services. Consisting of weekly and monthly passes, they are generally a refreshed version of the passes that the telco launched in June last year.

For starters, one of the main differences between them is speed. The new weekly Unlimited Internet Pass now goes up to 6Mbps as opposed to last year’s 3Mbps.

However, the speed upgrade was not extended to the new monthly pass. Instead, it comes with a 5GB uncapped speed quota.

As captured on Xpax’s official website, at 4:45 PM today.

This uncapped speed quota also has a higher position in terms of Xpax Mobile Internet Pass usage priority. Hence, users will only be switched to the 3Mbps speed after they depleted the 5GB uncapped speed quota.

At the same time, Celcom has also increased the free hotspot quota for the weekly pass from 1GB to 2GB while there is no change to the 3GB hotspot quota for the monthly pass. That being said, the monthly pass does have something extra in the form of free iQiYi VIP access for up to six months.

The biggest difference between the new Unlimited Internet Passes and their predecessors is the fact that Celcom was forthright about the Fair Usage Policy (FUP) that are applicable for these passes. If you recall from our report last year, the telco was pretty vague about it and didn’t provide the actual FUP figures for the passes.

The FAQ on Celcom’s website also listed out activities that it believes customers can perform under the FUP. Captured at 4:45 PM today.

Now, the weekly pass has a max usage cap of 20GB while the monthly pass goes up to 60GB. Once a customer has reached these FUP limits, their speed would be reduced from 3Mbps or 6Mbps to 512kbps which will reset once their current pass expires.

In the FAQ section of its website, Celcom noted that this FUP is meant for new customers that have just signed up for Xpax Unlimited starting from 7 October onwards. The same also applies to existing Xpax customers that had decided to switch their starter pack plan.

As per what we noted in our report regarding Maxis’ Hotlink Prepaid Unlimited plan last year, there is no such thing as a “true” unlimited plan in the market as all telco offerings out there are bound to FUP. Nevertheless, it is great to see Celcom finally list the FUP out in the open and this is something that all telcos out there should do, instead of leaving their customers in the dark regarding such a matter.
