The much beleaguered Cyberpunk 2077 just can’t catch a break. While the game – and its many issues – have been out since December 2020 for previous-gen consoles and PC, the current-gen console version is still nowhere to be seen. While the current gen versions of the game, and that of The Witcher 3, was supposed to be released this year, it looks like both will be pushed back to next year.
In a Tweet, CD Projekt Red announced that the “next generation updates of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for consoles and PC” will be pushed back. The former is slated for the first quarter of next year, while the latter will come in the second quarter. The delay also comes following “recommendations supplied by teams supervising the development of both games”.

In its current form, Cyberpunk 2077 has gotten a few major updates consisting of mostly bugfixes. But on the console side of things, these are primarily for the PS4 and Xbox One, which were the hardest hit by said bugs. And while the current generation consoles can play them via backwards compatibility (and still provide a better experience from the look of things), they don’t yet have a version that’s dedicated to them.
And now, that new version will have to wait a little longer. Which is not ideal for Cyberpunk 2077, to say the least. But on the flip side, The Witcher 3, which was already in pretty good shape by the time Cyberpunk 2077 came around, is getting a new lease on life for the new generation consoles.
