Apple Watch Series 7 Offers Larger Display, New Case Sizes, And Faster Charging Speed

Apple has unleashed plenty of new devices during its “California Streaming” event today including iPhone 13 Series, iPhone 13 Pro Series, 6th generation iPad mini, and 9th generation iPad. To complete the lineup, there is also the new Apple Watch Series 7.

Prior to last night’s event, we kept on hearing about how the new smartwatch will feature a redesigned body that mirrors the flat design on iPhone and iPad Pro. That rumour turns out to be off the mark as the Series 7 actually features more rounded corners that work together with the refractive edge on its screen to provide a seamless wraparound design.

Furthermore, the bezels on the smartwatch’s display are 40% thinner than its predecessor and this resulted in almost 20% more screen area when compared to the previously released Series 6 model or more than 50% difference if you take the Series 3 into account.

Apple also noted that the Always-On Retina Display on Series 7 is now up to 70% brighter when used indoors while the screen is apparently crack-resistant as well. The smartwatch is also dust resistant according to the IP6X standard and has retained its WR50 water resistance rating too.

As you may expect, heart rate, ECG and blood oxygen sensors remain standard on Series 7 while there are no changes to the smartwatch’s battery life which still maxes out at 18 hours just like Series 6. However, Series 7 comes with a new USB-C magnetic charger cable that allows the smartwatch to obtain up to 80% of its battery in 45 minutes when used with an Apple 20W USB-C Power Adapter.

While the smartwatch continues to be available in aluminium, stainless steel, and titanium cases, Series 7 has much larger size options though at 41mm and 45mm. Out of all the new products that Apple launched last night, only the smartwatch does not have a set launch date as it received a vague “later this fall” release timeframe which is rumoured to be caused by manufacturing issues.

Price-wise, Apple Watch Series 7 will start at USD399 (~RM1,661) in the United States but no words on its Malaysian release for the time being. We will keep you updated once there are further updates regarding its availability in our market, so stay tuned.
