Another OnePlus Nord 2 5G Reportedly Explodes In Delhi Lawyer’s Robe

A Delhi-based advocate has claimed that his brand new OnePlus Nord 2 5G exploded in his robe while he was in court. Gaurav Gulati tweeted about the incident and says that he sustained burn injuries, as well as breathing problems and vision blur caused by poisonous smoke from the blast.

MySmartPrice reached out to the lawyer and Gulati confirmed that the phone started feeling hot in his robe’s pocket while he was in an air-conditioned court chamber. He then threw away his robe when he saw smoke coming out and the phone then exploded in the chamber. According to an Amazon receipt in his tweet, the phone was purchased on 23 August.

The pictures show that the phone was burnt and slightly melted on both the front and back. The victim says that the phone was not charging at the time and the battery was at 90% capacity. OnePlus apparently reached out to him and asked for the device to be submitted but the lawyer refused and instead opted to file a lawsuit against OnePlus India after submitting the phone to the police. To take it one step further, Gulati said that he would also complain to the consumer court and bring an injunction to block the sale of the phone in India.

Gulati had also told Gadgets 360 that he was in process of filing a first information report (FIR) against OnePlus Managing Director and Amazon executives. “It’s like you are carrying a bomb after spending Rs. 30,000–35,000,” he stated. He also told MySmartPrice that he would be filing the FIR on 11 September but there has been no update on the matter so far.

In response to the incident, OnePlus said that the user refused to allow the company to “perform a proper diagnosis” after multiple attempts were made. “Under such circumstances, it is impossible for us to verify the legitimacy of this claim or address this individual’s demands for compensation,” the company said in a statement.  The company confirmed that they haven’t offered any compensation and they intend to investigate the claim first.

Last month, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G caused another such incident in Bengaluru when Ankur Sharma tweeted that his wife’s five-day-old OnePlus exploded in her sling bang while she was cycling. OnePlus reached out to the couple and Sharma subsequently deleted his tweet. It’s unknown whether or not the couple were compensated but OnePlus says they investigated the matter and concluded that the incident was caused by “external factors”. With two incidents thus far, things aren’t looking good for the phone that launched in late July.
